Welcome To The Studio Blog

This has now taken over StexJebba.com as the main-line to Jebba HQ - now temporarily relocated to Soundworks Studios in Burbank, CA.

We are currently working on the recording of our second release and want to keep you posted on all our progress. So this blog will do just that. You'll find complete status updates, commentary and photos right at you precious little fingertips.

Another very cool, super advanced, spared no expense feature we're giving you kiddies is the video account of the whole process we've lovingly called "Stex Tape". Strong.

Keep it locked (is that still what they say?) here and keep up to date, bitches! WOO!

-Stex Jebba

sooner or later...

Well hello, internet.

Yes, we know it's been a while since we've posted something. Yes, we know how angry that makes you. No, we don't necessarily feel responsible for your happiness. Unless our music makes you happy, then yes, it is all thanks to us. Stex Jebba makes you happy.

Either way, here's a new video. Every May there are a handful of birthdays to celebrate throughout the month and there's Memorial Day. So we - in our infinite wisdom (or laziness, depending on how you look at it) - decided to just roll all of these up into one big weekend of celebration. Well what, you may ask, makes this different than any other weekend for the Jebba? Good question. The answer, my friends, is the price tag. This party costs money.

Totally worth it though, as you can see. It's usually dark outside by the time the Jack get's cracked and smoking hot chicks start taking their clothes off. Okay, I made that last part up. But it'd be pretty sweet if i didn't. Am I right? I'm right.

Enjoy.

NOTE - YouTube got cute and disabled the audio track to this video because of at least one of the songs we used. Instead of pandering to The Man, we decided to stick to our original video and go with another video website for this time around. Damn the man. Power to the people.

time for dub geezy

That's pronounced "Gee-Zee" for all you lame-o's out there. Try and keep up. Get the net.

All early 90s movie references aside, this past weekend it was time to lay down the soothing sounds of lead guitar. Compliments of Dub G.

With each weekend this thing gets more and more interesting. This being because the way the songs come together is - in a sense - out of our hands. We prepared for everything and all that good stuff. But once we get in there and sounds start mixing with other sounds, creating weird mutated sound babies, and really changing around the way we hear these tunes (for the better).

We laid down some really nice lead lines though. Got to play with some effects and with one more day coming up this weekend, we should be all ready to move on to the vocals.

fight night debauchery

Well, we wrapped up at the studio early so we could catch the Pacquiao v. Hatton fight Saturday night. Turns out the only reason 25,000 Hatton fans from the UK flew over to the colonies was to drink all of our rebel booze and watch their boy hit the canvas quicker than ... well, something really quick. Like, REALLY quick. What a knock out man.

All praises to Hatton though. If I took those punches from Manny Pacquiao I can't say with confidence that I would've remained IN the actual boxing ring. I'd be in the rafters somewhere. But this isn't a sports blog.. back to Jebba. In any case...

So what were we to do. A house full of booze and no fight to watch while we drink it? Well, might as well drink it without watching the fight. See if you can spot the Ricky Hatton impression...

big ol' guitars and crunchy fuzz

So we reconvened in Soundworks Studios this past weekend to knock out the rhythm guitar tracks for the record. And boy, let me tell you. These songs sound HUGE!

Imagine King Kong driving an 18-wheeler on the surface of Saturn throwing sticks of dynamite out the window. I speak in hyperbole, of course (King Kong couldn't fit in an 18-wheeler), but seriously...

This time around we set out to make a big rock record and I think we're on track to getting just that. Now, with more of core pieces in place, some of the tracks are starting to sound better than we even anticipated ourselves.

And so we leave you kiddies with, of course, a video recap of the weekend in Stex Tape - Episode 4 below.

In addition to that, we've given you another little tasty treat in the form of a severely edited version of an "off" friday night we had a couple weeks back. It started, as these things usually do, as a small gathering to casually play some beer pong. And we ended up getting pretty shitty. Unfortunately, when the operators get shitty, the quality video footage starts to deteriorate. But we've pieced together a little bit to keep you happy.

happy easter, humans

We're taking a break from recording to acknowledge the arrival of a giant rabbit who - for some reason - poops out eggs and hides them so children can find them. We also need to rest our ears.

In the meantime, sit tight. We'll be posting items here and there regarding the record and other newsworthy tidbits. Although, maybe try staying away from the computer screen this weekend? It'll be good for you. Enjoy real life. Now.

"it's time to record some bass"

And now for the thrilling conclusion of Stex Tape - Episode 2...

when studios attack

What a weekend.

Recording the bass for the new record was scheduled for last weekend... We got off to a rough start. Some studio issues and complications arose. We promptly attempted to fix them. But not without some antics along the way.

The $1 piece of gear we were missing proved to be a semi-worthy adversary. Did we defeat it? Will we defeat it?! !!!

Spoiler alert: This episode is a cliffhanger..

the show before

Just before hitting the studio we played another show at Crane's Tavern in Hollywood. Here are some photos and a quick video account of the evening.

miked drums = art (for nerds)

There's something about drums sitting in the booth with all the mics and stands hovering over them and the shiney shininess of the shiney shines on the hardware that just looks so badass.

It's a badassness that I wanted to share with everyone. Along with some other photos.

drum explosion!

This past weekend we recorded all of the drums - successfully. Ron is beat.

We decided to treat ourselves to some proper drum recording and hired the "Drum Doctor" to come in, tune those suckers up and consult on getting the right sound for our record. His resume is a laundry list of the who's who in the music scene and we are very grateful to have been able to work with him. The drums sound tits.

Along with this post, i've thrown up the first episode of "Stex Tape" - the video account of our recording process that we've generously decided to share with all of you to. Enjoy.
